From Spain, VOX launched one of the harshest accusations ever leveled against Claudia Sheinbaum, sparking an international political clash.
The party’s secretary general, Ignacio Garriga, held nothing back, demanding from Barcelona that the Mexican president “stop flooding the streets with drugs and death,” and directly calling her a “narco-president.”
The statements were made during an international meeting that also included leaders such as Gustavo Petro, president of Colombia, and Lula da Silva, president of Brazil, whom VOX also labeled as part of a “criminal left.”
The message was forceful: VOX accuses the current Spanish government of opening the door to what the party considers “the worst narco-dictators in the world.”
VOX is a national-conservative, right-wing populist political party in Spain, founded in 2013 and led by Santiago Abascal. It is characterized as a far-right movement, with key platforms including intense Spanish nationalism, strong opposition to Catalan independence, stricter immigration controls (including mass deportations), skepticism toward EU institutions, and opposition to feminist and LGBTQ+ rights policies.
