Sixth grader dies in a gun-related incident within school premises

QUERETARO, QRO.- A tragic incident took place at the Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla Elementary School in the municipality of El Marqués, Querétaro, where a student lost his life due to a firearm impact which according to preliminary versions, occurred accidentally while the student was “playing” with the weapon.

According to local sources, the victim, who was in the sixth grade, was shot in the chest around 11 in the morning inside the classroom, located on Jalisco Street in the town of San Isidro Miranda.

Some mothers point out that their children informed them that two students were playing with the gun, but there are conflicting versions about who was carrying it or who pulled the trigger, which will be investigated by the Querétaro Attorney General’s Office (FGJQ).

Parents were called to pick up their children from school, where paramedics arrived and certified that the child, between 11 and 12 years old, no longer had vital signs.

The area was cordoned off by state police personnel to allow for investigation work and the removal of the body.

Meanwhile, the Basic Education Services Unit in the State of Querétaro ( USEBEQ ) confirmed that it was a student who lost his life and stated that the school acted in accordance with established protocols.
