President Andrés Manuel López Obrador will travel this weekend to Badiraguato, Sinaloa, the hometown of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, former leader of the Pacific Cartel, and who is being held in a United States jail.

The Office of the Presidency reported on Monday, July 26th, that the federal Executive is expected to travel this Friday morning to that municipality to supervise the construction of the Badiraguato-Guadalupe y Calvo highway, in the heart of the Golden Triangle, an area known for the harvesting of drugs, such as marijuana and poppy.

Last year, on March 29, 2020, while supervising this same highway, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador greeted “El Chapo’s” mother, María Consuelo Loera Pérez.

“I greet you, do not get off, do not get off, I have already received your letter,” said the President last year, while greeting the mother of the Mexican drug trafficker, who was inside a truck in a video that went viral on social networks.

During the brief meeting, María Consuelo Loera Pérez gave him a letter requesting her intervention in order to travel to the United States and see her son.
