On Sunday, July 25th, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reiterated that one of the objectives of his Administration is for the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) to take over the National Guard “so that it does not spoil as it happened with the Federal Police” AMLO said.

However, journalistic sources revealed that this was planned since May.

It is indicated that in the second phase, the incorporation of the National Guard would begin in 2021 when a reform initiative project was presented to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Subsequently, it would be referred to the Chamber of Representatives for lobbying in Congress and for publication of the reform.

For 2022, the publication of secondary legislation is expected, materializing the organic and administrative adjustments and finally the remainder of the entry of the National Guard as an armed force attached to Sedena.

During the inauguration of the new National Guard headquarters in Xalapa, Veracruz, on Sunday, July 25th, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced an investment of 50 billion pesos for the corporation.

He reiterated that the National Guard must always act in accordance with its principles, ideals and be incorruptible.

He stressed that in countries such as Spain, Italy, and France that is how the civil guards work.

The president explained that the National Guard has 100,000 troops deployed in 182 barracks across the country, and plans to build a total of 266 throughout the national territory.
