PUERTO ESCONDIDO, OAXACA — A group of national tourists experienced a severe fright after being struck by the remote electrical induction of a lightning bolt on Bacocho Beach, a popular destination on the Oaxacan coast.

Emergency response teams, including paramedics from the local fire department and San Pedro Mixtepec Civil Protection, rushed to the shoreline after receiving radio alerts. The affected travelers, visiting from Chihuahua and Tijuana, received immediate pre-hospital clinical evaluations on the sand.

Fortunately, emergency officials reported that vital signs were normal, and none of the tourists sustained burns or severe injuries. Following detailed checkups inside the responding ambulances, emergency personnel safely transported the shaken visitors back to their respective hotels.

The severe thunderstorm also caused local infrastructure damage, striking a tall palm tree in the nearby Granjas del Pescador neighborhood and sparking a fire. Firefighters successfully neutralized the flames using high-pressure water lines before the fire could spread to surrounding residential palapas.

Civil Protection authorities have urged beachgoers to immediately evacuate open shores and avoid seeking shelter under tall trees when thunder begins.
