The case of Guillermo Jaffet Hidalgo Ortiz and Zafar Padamsee Mawani, the American couple who disappeared in May and whose bodies were recently found in a clandestine grave in La Marquesa, has taken a new turn following reports of the alleged arrest of several people connected to the crime.
The information was shared by journalist Carlos Jiménez on social media, where he stated that federal authorities had made arrests related to the disappearance and murder of the two victims.
According to the post, members of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) arrested at least three people allegedly linked to the case.
According to this report, some of these individuals provided information that revealed details about the fate of Guillermo and Zafar and how their bodies were concealed.
“There are already arrests in the murder of the American couple. Mexico City’s SSPC (Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection) has arrested at least three people connected to the disappearance and murder of Zafar and Guillermo Jaffet. They confessed to burying them in La Marquesa. The Mexico City and State of Mexico Attorney General’s Offices are investigating.”
However, to date, no federal agency or the involved prosecutors’ offices have issued an official statement confirming these arrests.

A disappearance that began with an alleged purchase
The story of Guillermo Jaffet Hidalgo Ortiz and Zafar Padamsee Mawani began to gain public attention after they disappeared on May 20.
The two men, 57 and 56 years old respectively, resided in Chicago, Illinois, but were temporarily staying in the Interlomas area of Huixquilucan, State of Mexico.
That day they left with the goal of finalizing a transaction related to the purchase of an elevator for people with disabilities.
To get there, they used a ride-hailing service heading south of Mexico City.
Subsequent investigations reconstructed some of their last movements and revealed that before losing contact, they both shared their real-time location with someone close to them.
This detail became one of the first pieces of evidence in tracing their route before they disappeared.
The last signal and the start of the investigation
According to reports available so far, the last activity recorded on the victims’ cell phones occurred around 6:20 p.m. on May 20.
After that time, the devices stopped transmitting a signal.
Among the hypotheses being considered by authorities was the possibility that they were intercepted near Periférico Sur, in the Tlalpan borough, and subsequently transferred to another vehicle.
As the hours passed and communication remained elusive, family members began to notice unusual financial activity.
This situation heightened their concern and led to an expansion of the search efforts.
The case began to attract attention in both Mexico and the United States, where relatives requested institutional support and diplomatic intervention to bolster the search.

The Discovery in La Marquesa
Weeks after the investigation began, federal and state authorities located the bodies of both men buried in a clandestine grave in a wooded area of La Marquesa, within the municipality of Ocoyoacac, State of Mexico.
The discovery opened a new phase in the case: transitioning from a search for missing persons to a homicide investigation.
Since then, the investigation has focused on reconstructing the events, establishing how the deaths occurred, determining the motive, and locating all those involved. What remains to be confirmed
Although the report on alleged arrests represents the most recent publicly known development, several questions remain unanswered.
So far, the identities, ages, and legal status of the individuals allegedly detained have not been released.
There is also no official information on whether these arrests resulted in warrants, appearances before a judge, or new lines of investigation.
