August, the month with the highest number of air passengers registered in the history of Yucatán

The “Manuel Crescencio Rejón” International Airport of Mérida received more than 327,189 travelers during August of this year, which meant a growth of 17.33% compared to the same period, but in 2022. 

MÉRIDA.- Once again, Yucatán recorded the best August in its history in terms of passenger movement by air, receiving 327,189 travelers at the “Manuel Crescencio Rejón” International Airport of Mérida, which meant a growth of almost 17.33% compared to same period of 2022, the result of the tourism promotion led by Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal to position the state in the eyes of the world and encourage the arrival of more visitors. 

Official figures show that the entity is having a historic year, reaching 8 months with the highest figures; So far, the total movement of passengers was 2 million 435,612, the highest amount since records have been kept, and with an accumulated growth of 28.74% compared to the same period of the previous year, so that August was placed among the 8 months with the most movement in air terminal. 

These figures reflect the transformation of the tourism sector in the territory promoted by Vila Dosal, by improving the variety of attractions offered by the area, promoting it and reinforcing air connectivity, despite the effects of the largest health contingency in modern history. 

Likewise, last December, the Governor delivered a certificate to the 3 millionth passenger, Alberto Flores Torres, which surpassed the highest number in the airline, obtained in 2019, when 2.8 million travelers were registered, reflecting the development and destination positioning. 

In addition to this, the region’s air connection has increased, by inaugurating 2 direct routes: Guanajuato-Mérida, operated by Volaris and Viva Aerobús, as well as Mérida-Guatemala and Mérida-Flores, by TAG Airlines, with 4 and 3 flights. per week, respectively, with competitive rates. 

On the other hand, as a result of the efforts of Vila Dosal, the territory has a new operational base or Viva hub at the Airport, with 3 aircrafts spend the night in the Yucatecan capital, connectivity increases and 600 jobs are generated, including direct and indirect. 

Also, the entity is linked through 11 national routes to cities such as Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Veracruz, Villahermosa, Tijuana and Oaxaca, and in the remainder of this year, Toluca, León and Querétaro; Likewise, it has 8 international routes, to Toronto, in Canada; Houston, Miami, Dallas and Oakland, from the United States; Havana, Cuba, and both Guatemala City and Flores, Guatemala.
