In the Magic Town of Coscomatepec de Bravo there will be a tribute to all dance expressions and the representation that is made with the art of masks.
Mexico has an endless number of cultural representations, but among them, the traditional dances stand out, therefore, the first National Festival of Dancing Masks 2021 wants to pay tribute to traditional dances that use masks.
The event will be held in the Magic Town of Coscomatepec de Bravo, Veracruz, it is intended to represent and pay tribute to 20 traditional dances from 12 states of the Mexican Republic.
What can you expect from the National Dancing Mask Festival?
The event is designed to pay tribute to the traditional staging, the making of masks and the artistic value they give off, as well as the clothing used in the different dances.
For this reason, Coscomatepec, Magic Town of Veracruz, wants to have an event that revalues and promotes this tradition of dances and masks.
What does the Dance of the Santiagos de Coscomatepec mean?
The dance consists of two sides: the Moors and the Christians, led by the one who gives the dance its name, Santiago Apóstol, who carries a horse at his waist, the comic type of the dance is Pilatos, wearing a tricorn, He charges the children and scares the crowd with his devilish mask.
The Moors and the Christians dance in a unique painting executing firm steps and showing the gallantry of each of the characters that in this case represent the battle between these two armies in Europe during the time of the Crusades.
The diabolical mask is one of the most traditional among the dances and you will be able to see it, as well as a demonstration, at the National Festival of Dancing Masks 2021.
It will be held from December 13 to 16 in places such as: the Hidalgo square, in the Cultural Center and in the Juárez Theater.
