San Miguel de Allende commemorated the International Day of Indigenous Peoples for the first time in its history with a formal event held at the Civic Plaza, bringing together more than twenty indigenous communities from across the region.
The celebration was highlighted by traditional gastronomy displays, artisanal exhibitions featuring handmade textiles and garments, and ancestral rituals accompanied by the fragrance of copal incense and traditional drumming honoring the four cardinal directions. Representatives and community leaders emphasized the historic significance of this recognition, which seeks to revalue the identity, culture, and enduring contributions of Guanajuato’s indigenous peoples, fostering pride in their roots and promoting the preservation of their heritage for future generations.
