MERIDA, Yucatan — A coordinated international investigation has led to the arrest of a man in Merida accused of human trafficking through the distribution and storage of child pornography.
The suspect, identified as Loreto Guadalupe “N,” was apprehended on June 27, 2026, following a multi-year operation. The arrest was made public on July 8 by the Attorney General’s Office of Quintana Roo (FGE), which is leading the prosecution.
According to authorities, the operation was the result of close collaboration between Mexican state prosecutors, the U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) division based in Mexico, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). International investigators had been tracking the suspect’s digital footprint and physical movements since August 5, 2020.
The FGE revealed that Loreto Guadalupe “N” allegedly stored, reproduced, and distributed digital material depicting the sexual abuse of dozens of children and adolescents under the age of 18. Following his capture in Merida, the suspect was transferred to Cancun, where a control judge formally linked him to legal proceedings (vinculación a proceso). The judge ordered a mandatory two-year preventive prison sentence while the judicial process moves forward.
This case marks the second major arrest in Yucatan this year tied to global child exploitation rings. In April 2026, another suspect was detained in Kanasín after a separate investigation spearheaded by the Australian Embassy and the Queensland Police.
Local authorities emphasized that international treaties and tech-driven field intelligence continue to be vital in breaking down transnational criminal networks operating within the Yucatan Peninsula.
