MAZATLAN. – Until the last report, Mazatlán had 80 percent hotel occupancy from international tourism for the eclipse on April 8, 2024, highlighted Martín Ochoa López, head of the Secretariat of Economic Development, Tourism and Fisheries of Mazatlán.

He pointed out that the various hotel associations have informed him that reservations for that period are going very well. The year has not yet ended, and there is only 20 percent availability left for that date. It is estimated that it will be completely filled, benefiting the destination.

The official mentioned that the main international reserves come from Asia and Europe. Therefore, he has plans to create a municipal committee that integrates Civil Protection, Public Security, the hotel sector, the restaurant sector and representatives of various chambers.

“Without a doubt, this motivates us as a municipal government and as a Development and Tourism area to prepare. “Rural communities, such as La Noria, and Concordia, which is a municipality, are preparing places to witness the eclipse.”

The official also reported that reservations have been made at the Observatory by American tourists and at the beach club called ‘Chiquinac’, which will soon open its doors.

He said that there are tourists who are booking especially for April 8, and the arrival of international tourists is expected. In addition, it is said that NASA personnel will come to take photographs of the eclipse from Mazatlán, which will make the event historic, since this type of eclipse occurs every 300 years.

Finally, Ochoa López expressed his gratitude to all those responsible for promoting and organizing this type of events that attract different tourism to the destination.
