The announcement was made by Alberto Vázquez Sánchez, general director of the Oaxaca, Art, Fiesta and Tradition Cultural Group, at a press conference he offered at the Olimpo cultural center.

“It means a tradition and a custom that we have in Oaxaca in its eight regions and 570 municipalities. For us, giving, sharing, the responsibility to give the best of our peoples has a deep meaning, that is the meaning of Guelaguetza”, he highlighted.

The Oaxaca Festival and the Guelaguetza in Mérida will take place from February 20 to March 6 at the Parque de la Paz, near the Parque Zoologico del Centenario.

Hours will be 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

During this period, people will find a wide variety of Oaxacan products such as typical clothing, filigree from the Isthmus, black clay, and alebrijes. 

Gastronomy will also occupy an important place in the event where it will be possible to enjoy tlayudas, tamales, quesillo, grasshoppers and black mole; Of course, you can not miss the traditional snow.

In the cultural part, attendees will be able to enjoy the weekends of Oaxacan and Yucatecan troubadours, and in the framework of the month of women, there will be an Oaxacan poet in the Zapotec language.

On March 5 and 6 at 6 p.m., the Guelaguetza show will be presented, which is recognized as a cultural heritage of humanity.

Around 50 artists participate in the Guelaguetza in Mérida, including musicians and dancers.

Before the presentation, Vázquez Sánchez acknowledged that the festival has been well received in Mérida and other municipalities where it has been presented for twelve years. “Shortened the distance between Monte Albán and Chichén Itzá through culture”.
