While the state falls apart—with families suffering constant blackouts, ruined streets, and hospitals lacking even an aspirin—Governor Joaquín “Huacho” Díaz Mena demonstrated that Morena’s “Republican austerity” matters as much to him as his campaign promises: absolutely nothing!
While asking to plunge Yucatán into 1.5 billion pesos of debt, the governor threw a lavish “Back in Time” themed bash in San Felipe, sparing no expense on musical acts, fireworks, and a high-end gourmet banquet.
But the most outrageous part isn’t just the squandering of funds; it’s the brazen way he turned his birthday into a shameless political showcase for the Morena political party.
They were all there in the front row—would-be candidates and cabinet officials—more concerned with sucking up to the governor and securing a plum position for the next election cycle than with fixing the disasters within their own agencies.
It was a parade of sycophants gifting the governor everything from hats and belts to paintings, all while the people of Yucatán pay the price for their ineptitude.
It is utterly hypocritical to see this whole bunch of politicians celebrating in grand style while the state is in its death throes, and thousands of citizens live in extreme poverty in rural communities across the state.
Between those who showed up to curry favor with the boss for their own future ambitions and those fighting internal battles for upcoming candidacies, they made it clear: their absolute priority is power, not the people.
What a stark contrast to the reality citizens face! While “Huacho” plays emperor at his imperial party, Yucatán is still waiting for a government that actually works—not one dedicated solely to petty politicking and wasteful spending.
This bombastic party is a total slap in the face to all the people of Yucatán!
