wo men were murdered in a gangland attack in Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo, early on Sunday morning. Both were driving in a neighborhood called Aldea-Kaan when sicarios pulled up on a motorcycle and shot at them from point-blank range.

A private security guard from the neighborhood who witnessed the shooting detailed that the driver tried to escape the shots, but was not successful in out-motoring the motorcyclist. The assassins then fled the scene and have not been arrested.

Investigators from the Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office say that one of the victims was a US citizen with ties to European criminal groups. He was wanted in Ukraine for cocaine trafficking charges; his fugitive alert code was 305CH3.

The deceased were identified as Fernando Luis ‘N’ and Vitaly ‘N’. Local media say Fernando Luis was a US citizen; Vitaly’s citizenship may also be foreign, reports say.

Borderland Beat reported earlier this month that the aspiring mayor of Puerto Morelos for the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico (PVEM), Ignacio Sanchez Cordero, was murdered by sicarios inside a coffee shop.
