The City Council did not project resources for the next year Carnival

The Campeche City Council through the municipal president, Eliseo Fernández Montúfar, announced in a live broadcast the cancellation of the Campeche Carnival 2021 due to the pandemic, predicting that cases of COVID for the end of January and the beginning of February when the traditional Carnival would begin.

Even in the presentation of the 2021 Income and Expenditure Law of the City Council, which was approved unanimously by the council, they did not project resources for the celebration of the Carnival, while in February of this year it took place as planned due to the contracts that they already had with some artists and because it was the month before the announced of the first case of COVID-19 in the state.

During the broadcast, the mayor of Campeche recognized that it is a holiday expected by citizens and business owners due to the economic influx left by this traditional festival, as national and international tourism arrives, “but we cannot risk the health of the Campechens, which is the most important matter at these moments ”, he specified.

However, the patron saint festivities of San Román and San Francisco are still on standby, as Fernández Montúfar assured that the city already allocated 5 million pesos for these celebrations for the months of August, September, and October since they are very close together. Regarding this, the mayor exhorted the Campechanos to continue to follow the sanitary measurements and to take care of themselves so that by those dates it would be possible to celebrate the fairs.
