MONCLOVA, COAHUILA — Mauricio Reynoso Sosa, competing in the Pro Moto category with vehicle 4X, became the first rally competitor to physically cross the finish line in Monclova during the 2026 Coahuila 1000 Desert Rally. Despite crossing first at the Lienzo Charro finish line, race organizers noted that official results remain pending until judges complete timing verifications.

The grueling 1,000-kilometer off-road endurance competition concluded its final leg after taking drivers through demanding desert terrain. Starting in Torreón, competitors completed a 500-kilometer stretch to Saltillo before embarking on the final phase through General Cepeda, Parras de la Fuente, Estación Marte, and Castaños, ultimately reaching Monclova for the second consecutive year.

Reynoso led the competitive field through extreme dust, reduced visibility, rough trail conditions, and high heat that heavily tested vehicle engines, tires, and driver endurance. However, crossing the finish line first does not guarantee an overall victory or category win.

Race officials explained that final standings depend on total elapsed time, adherence to required routes, and checkpoint validations tracked via GPS and the Stella monitoring system. Penalties for route deviations, speeding, or missed controls can alter the final standings significantly.

Around 130 drivers participated in the timed competitive block of the rally, operating separately from the non-competitive Tourist Route.

Judges spent the night reviewing telemetry, timing logs, and checkpoint data to establish official standings. The formal award ceremony and closing event took place in Monclova, where overall champions and category winners received official recognition along with a share of the one-million-peso prize purse distributed across qualifying divisions.
