Enrique Ángel from Mazatlán, Sinaloa, was nominated for the “International Children’s Peace Prize 2020” for his work to promote the rights of children and adolescents.

Mazatlán.- Enrique Ángel Figueroa Salazar, child DIFuser 2019 of DIF Sinaloa, became the first Sinaloan to be nominated for the “International Children’s Peace Prize 2020”, for his work to promote the rights of girls, boys, and adolescents in schools high level of marginalization.

This Friday, the president of DIF Sinaloa, Rosy Fuentes congratulated Enrique Ángel on his nomination for an award of importance worldwide.

For 16 years, the Kids Rights Foundation based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, has annually awarded the  “International Children’s Peace Prize 2020” to a winner for his effort in promoting the rights of children and improving the situation of the most vulnerable.

“This important award has been received by personalities such as Malala in 2013 and Greta Thunberg in 2019. In a statement, the Foundation said that this time there are 142 nominees from 42 different countries for the 2020 International Children’s Peace Prize, where there are four Mexican children, including the young man from Sinaloa, “says the DIF Sinaloa statement.

Rosy Fuentes de Ordaz said she was very proud of everything the young man has done, “our child DIFuser has been participating in calls for a long time defending the Rights of Children, Adolescent Girls, in this important award there are four Mexican children, of which one is from Sinaloa and it is him, we wish him good luck for November ”.

For his part, Enrique Ángel said that his life took a totally new turn by being the winner of the contest held by DIF Sinaloa as a DIF user 2019 child, “it can be said that in 2019 I was a young man with a normal life and since I was a DIF user, I have lived many experiences and many learnings that I have acquired, it has simply been the best thing that has happened to me ”.

The young Mazatlan is part of the Network of Child and Adolescent Correspondents (CORIA), which is made up of 23 boys, girls, and adolescents from the countries of Canada, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Trinidad, and Tobago, and Uruguay.

In 2019, she represented Mexico in the third Pan American Forum for Girls, Boys and Adolescents and Twenty-Second Pan American Congress 2019 in Cartagena, Colombia, supported by DIF Sinaloa.

It has also participated in important campaigns organized by the National, State, and municipal DIF, such as: “Against Human Trafficking”, “Prevention of Child Labor”, “Girls and Boys Don’t Touch Each Other”.

At the end of October, the three finalists will be announced by Nobel Peace Prize winner Desmond Tutu and on November 13, the winner will be announced through a ceremony that will be available online worldwide.

The winner receives the ‘Nkosi’ statuette, which shows how a child sets the world in motion. This statuette designed by Inge Ikink and is named after the first winner, Nkosi Johnson. The winner also receives a scholarship for study and care, as well as a global platform to promote their ideas and causes for the benefit of children’s rights.
