Free Aerial Spectacle in Mexico City Kicks Off Countdown to Landmark Balloon Festival

- October 7, 2026

Mexico City will host a spectacular, free public light show this Tuesday as a high-profile preview of one of the country’s most renowned aeronautical events.

The “Noche Mágica” (Magical Night) exhibition will take place in the Plaza de la República, adjacent to the iconic Monumento a la Revolución, beginning at 7:00 PM. The event is open to the general public of all ages and requires no prior registration or tickets.

Organized by the Festival Internacional del Globo (FIG), the “Noche Mágica” is a signature attraction where hot air balloons are anchored to the ground. The burners are ignited in synchronization with music, creating a vibrant choreographed light show against the city skyline.

While typically held in León, Guanajuato, organizers moved the experience to the capital to kick off the promotional campaign for the festival’s 2026 edition. This year marks a significant milestone as it will be the festival’s 25th anniversary.

The 2026 FIG is scheduled to run from November 13 to 16 in León. Organizers anticipate a massive turnout of over 400,000 visitors and an economic impact of approximately 950 million pesos. The festival is set to be one of the world’s largest aerostation gatherings, featuring more than 200 balloons from 25 different countries.

To promote accessibility, the government of Guanajuato will offer free admission on the opening day, Friday, November 13, under the “Viernes de la Gente” (People’s Friday) initiative. That day’s festivities will include the inaugural balloon flight, a drone show, and the traditional “Noche Mágica” light display, with the first balloon launches scheduled for 6:30 AM.
