The Attorney General’s Office of Sinaloa has opened an investigation into attempted femicide following a gun attack targeting search activist Alma Rosa Rojo Medina and her family in Culiacán. Rojo Medina, founder of the collective Voces Unidas por la Vida, was ambushed alongside her relatives on Saturday afternoon while driving through the Estela Ortiz neighborhood.
According to official reports, armed individuals intercepted the white Toyota Yaris driven by the activist along Jesús Silva Herzog Avenue and opened fire multiple times before fleeing the scene.Both Rojo Medina and her granddaughter sustained injuries during the attack and were immediately transported to a local hospital, where they remain under medical care and strict security protocol.
Authorities activated a “Código Plata” protective security measure to guard the victims as specialized units conduct forensic analysis and gather witness statements. State prosecutors confirmed that a primary line of investigation centers on whether the armed assault was directly linked to Rojo Medina’s human rights work searching for missing persons across Sinaloa.
