Official figures presented by the National Migration Institute (INM) reveal that Guanajuato has recorded a total of 21,069 repatriated citizens returning from the United States. This significant volume positions the state in second place nationwide for the reception of returned nationals.

The data covers the period from January 20, 2025, to August 13, 2026, during which Mexico received a nationwide total of 271,193 repatriated individuals. According to the report, the vast majority of these returns are concentrated in states with deep-rooted migratory traditions, highlighting the heavy impact these demographic shifts have on local communities.

Key Figures on National Repatriation:

Top States of Origin: Chiapas leads the national count with 23,915 repatriated individuals, closely followed by Guanajuato (21,069), Guerrero (20,155), Veracruz (18,003), Oaxaca (17,810), and Michoacán (17,113).

Concentration: The top eight states account for approximately 55% of all total returns to the country.

Modes of Return: Nationally, over 171,000 citizens returned via land border crossings, while nearly 100,000 arrived through specialized international flights distributed across ten different airports in the country.

The data underscores ongoing challenges and the need for localized support structures to assist returning migrants as they reintegrate into their home communities across central Mexico.
