To the lively tunes of fifes, drums, flutes, and accordions, France’s Lous Réoulés Groupe Folklorique de Gironde captivated crowds at the Plaza de Armas during the prestigious Festival Zacatecas del Folclor Internacional (FZFI) “Gustavo Vaquera Contreras” 2026.
Sponsored by the State Government of Zacatecas through the “Ramón López Velarde” Zacatecan Institute of Culture, the French delegation presented a vibrant program featuring traditional regional dances like “Juan de La Réoule” and “El Sabringotte.” Their performance highlighted a dedicated mission to preserve and showcase the cultural heritage of France’s Gironde region on an international stage.
The evening’s celebrations also celebrated local and national heritage. The Puerta del Semidesierto Folkloric Ballet from Villa de Cos and the Zacatecas Folkloric Ballet filled the festival’s main venue with color and tradition through classic Mexican numbers. Meanwhile, the Fernando Calderón Theater hosted a gala performance by the Tabasco Folkloric Company (COFOLTAB) alongside the Tezcatl-Tlalli Folkloric Ensemble, which honored the musical traditions of Jerez and Nochistlán.
International cultural exchange flourished further at the Popular Music and Fandango Forum, where the Folkloric Ballet of Temuco from Chile shared traditional Chilean rhythms. The lively jornada concluded with performances by the Banda Sierra Nublada and traditional Matlachines dancers from the local community of Picones, reinforcing an atmosphere of festive community and global unity.
