CIUDAD VALLES, SAN LUIS POTOSI — San Luis Potosí is set to significantly bolster its security infrastructure following a high-level agreement between State Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona and Mexico’s Federal Secretary of Security and Protection of Citizens, Omar García Harfuch.
Under the new strategy, the presence of federal forces in the state will double from the current 400 personnel. This reinforcement will heavily target Federal Highway 57, a vital economic artery connecting Mexico City to the northern U.S. border that has historically suffered from high rates of cargo transport theft.
Governor Gallardo Cardona emphasized that the deployment aims to sustain recent declines in high-impact crimes through coordinated, intelligence-led operations. “Everything is done with intelligence,” the governor stated, noting that federal intelligence identifies targets before state and federal forces execute strategic operations.
The meeting also addressed recent complaints from transport operators regarding alleged misconduct by federal elements along the highway. Gallardo Cardona assured that Secretary García Harfuch is fully aware of these reports and is actively monitoring the situation.
The state government expects the additional troops to arrive within the coming weeks to solidify the regional security shield.
