Arrivals of US tourists to Los Cabos will decrease by 49% in 2026: perception of insecurity among the causes.

Mauricio Salicrup, secretary of the Hotel Association Council, warned that the arrival of visitors to this area has been affected by various factors; among them are conflicts around the world.

During the first quarter of 2026, the arrival of American tourists to Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, decreased by 49% compared to the previous year, according to Mauricio Salicrup, representative of the National Business Tourism Council (CNET).

In an interview with the newspaper El Sudcaliforniano, Salicrup detailed that visits to Los Cabos by Canadian tourists also fell by 23%, while those from the domestic market registered a drop of 16%.

The secretary of the Los Cabos Hotel Association Council also warned that the arrival of visitors to this tourist destination has been affected by various factors, both national and global.

According to Salicrup, although Mexico is one of the host countries for the World Cup, the benefit will be limited for destinations other than those where the tournament matches are scheduled.

He also emphasized that the perception of insecurity is another circumstance affecting the arrival of foreigners, even with promotional efforts for this tourist area.

For Salicrup, what happens in other states “continues to affect us because there is always a decrease due to companies there sending notices to employees prohibiting travel to Mexico for security reasons.”

In the conversation with the media outlet, he also mentioned other events happening around the world, such as the conflict between the United States and Iran, since the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has increased fuel prices and, consequently, airfare.

It’s worth recalling that in February of this year, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho,” leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), was killed during an operation in Jalisco, which provoked a violent reaction, including the burning of vehicles and road blockades by members of this criminal group.

Likewise, last Monday, April 20th, a man identified as Julio César Jazo Ramírez threatened and attacked tourists of various nationalities with a firearm at the Pyramid of the Moon in Teotihuacan. A Canadian woman was killed in the attack, and 13 other people were injured.
