Cesar Gerardo Ortiz, better known as Gerardo Ortiz, is a Mexican-American singer, songwriter, and recording artist of regional Mexican music. He is especially famous for his progressive corridos.
He was born on October 5, 1989, in Pasadena, California, United States.
The 35-year-old singer pleaded guilty to performing concerts for a promoter linked to drug cartels, the U.S. Attorney’s Office reported, according to Rolling Stone magazine.
Ortiz allegedly violated the Kingpin Act, a federal law that prohibits individuals and companies from doing business with drug lords and their associates.
Alexander Schwab, Assistant U.S. Attorney, noted that the artist pleaded guilty to “conspiracy to transact with a specially designated drug trafficker.”
He would also testify against Ángel del Villar, founder of Del Records and who would be associated with Jesús Pérez Alvear and the Gallística Diamante company, which are allegedly linked to the CJNG Mexican Cartel.
