A United States Air Force reconnaissance aircraft flew over international waters near Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, and along the coasts of Sinaloa and Sonora, the National Defense Secretariat (Defense) reported on Monday, February 3.
As of 7:20 p.m., the aircraft, a Boeing RC-135V Rivet Joint, had flown upon Culiacán to the border with Sonora, to return and circle the Baja California peninsula back to the United States.
According to the records of the Flight Radar 24 platform, which monitors the flights of all aircraft in real-time, the Boeing of the United States Air Force has made these flights at least twice.
The National Defense Secretariat (Defense) reported that at 1:41 p.m. the presence of the aircraft was reported, whose flight took place “outside Mexican airspace, over international waters.” The report was released by the Mazatlán Area Control Center to the National Center for Surveillance and Protection of Airspace (Cenavi).
The Boeing RC-135V Rivet Joint is a highly specialized reconnaissance aircraft, specifically designed for “signals intelligence” and “electronic intelligence” missions, i.e. capable of collecting and analyzing electromagnetic information for military support.
According to the characteristics of the aircraft, its main function is to collect, analyze and geolocate electromagnetic signals, such as communications or radars; as well as provide critical intelligence for target selection and threat prevention.
With a capacity of up to 27 people, including pilots, this military aircraft has been deployed in wars such as the Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as in the Middle East.
Among its features, it stands out that this type of aircraft is capable of refueling in the air.
