President Andrés Manuel López Obrador spoke about the violence that has broken out in Sinaloa in recent days and also explained why these clashes began.
During his morning press conference on Thursday, September 19, AMLO mentioned the alleged agreement between the United States and Joaquín Guzmán López, for which the son of ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán and Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada were arrested.
The president clarified that the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) requested details about this negotiation from the US, but, until now, the information available on the matter has not been shared with them.
“According to the prosecutor’s office, the Department of Justice was holding talks with one of the criminal groups in Sinaloa. They gave support to one of those arrested in the US while they took another person away,” López Obrador explained.
AMLO said that this requires an explanation because the violence in Sinaloa is due to that decision and it is necessary to know the details.
“We do not agree that Mexico should be ignored because that is where we have the problem,” he added.

The president said that in Sinaloa there was no such situation and that, despite not being serious, security elements have been deployed to confront the organized crime groups that are involved in a dispute.
When asked if he considers that the operation to arrest ‘El Mayo’ Zambada was illegal, López Obrador assured that “it was wrong” because the consequences were people dead about Héctor Melesio Cuén, former rector of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa (UAS) and the deaths due to the recent clashes in Culiacán.
