Microsoft announced that its data center region in Mexico should begin operating in the second half of this year.
The project, located in the state of Querétaro, is the first of its kind within the Spanish-speaking countries of Latin America.
Microsoft has 60 data center regions in 140 countries.
The new region, called Central Mexico, will be structured by three availability zones, from which the company’s main cloud services will be deployed: Azure, M365, and Dynamics 365.
Each Availability Zone is a location physically separated from the others, with one or more data centers equipped with independent power, cooling, and networking.
This event was announced in 2020 within the framework of a US$1.1 billion investment plan to promote digital transformation and build the first cloud region in Mexico.
The design features of the data centers were not disclosed.
“Having processing facilities closer to access and connection points represents a direct benefit for everyone: online browsing becomes a more agile experience, with shorter response times and more agile interactions, since the distance is reduced. that the information runs through,” Juan José Delgado, director of digital innovation at Microsoft Mexico, said in a statement.
Querétaro has become a hub for data centers.
According to the state Secretariat of Sustainable Development, 15 data center projects have been announced for a value of US$3 billion.
If completed, the projects would generate an energy demand of 400MW, indicated the newspaper El Economista.
