Violence plagues the state of Morelos: 17 people were murdered over the weekend

At the start of 2023, violence in the Mexican state of Morelos skyrocketed due to the strengthening of organized crime leading up to next year’s elections.

The weekend left nine homicides in Morelos according to official data, however, figures compiled through the media show the death of at least 17 people and 10 injured, in different events.

Among these, a possible femicide committed in Cuautla and another in Jojutla stand out, after the multiple homicide against a family of which four people were executed, including a woman.

Likewise, the attack against an agent of the Specialized Unit Against Kidnapping (UECS) of the State Attorney General’s Office, who was killed along with his attackers.

The record of these acts of violence covers from Friday, Feb. 17th to Sunday the 19th, where the municipalities with the highest rate were Cuernavaca, Cuautla, Temixco, Jojutla, and Coatlán del Río.
