Queretaro, Qro. The Tim Hortons coffee shop chain will invest 600 million pesos to install 50 branches in Querétaro over the next three years.

With this project, the Canadian firm expects to generate 1,000 jobs, 10% will be places for people over 65 years of age, in addition, it is estimated to create 7,500 jobs indirectly, reported the CEO of Tim Hortons in Mexico, Juan José Gutiérrez Chapa.

The company will install around 30 establishments in the capital of Querétaro; between five and 10 points in surrounding municipalities, including San Juan del Río, Corregidora and El Marqués.

The manager stressed that the firm seeks that each restaurant acts as a production center, because they generate freshly made products.

Currently, 30% of the coffee they sell in the country is Mexican, from Chiapas, however, the goal is to close 2023 with 80 percent. Regarding the rest of the consumables, the objective is to reach 90% of these supplies of national origin, since they currently depend on 40% of imports.

“The coffee, 30% is Mexican, but our goal by the end of next year is that 80% of everything sold in Mexico be Mexican grain, but the grain that comes from Chiapas will not only be for Mexico, we will be there in January, also seeking to start working with the communities of Chiapas,” said Juan José Gutierrez.

Therefore, the objective is to buy the grain in Mexico and roast it in Canada in order to process all the product in the same place.

Worldwide, he added, Tim Hortons has 5,000 stores. At each of its locations, the firm seeks to certify its local growers.

During the investment announcement, the governor of Querétaro, Mauricio Kuri González, said that the firm could find potential local suppliers in the entity. Meanwhile, he announced that in November he will tour Canada.
