At least 20 dead in passenger bus accident on the Mexico-Laredo highway

The passenger bus caught fire after colliding with a tank truck from the pipe at kilometer 67 of the Mexico-Laredo highway, in Tamaulipas.

Ciudad Victoria, Tamps. At least 20 passengers died when the bus they were traveling in collided with a pipe, at kilometer 67 of the Mexico-Laredo national highway, section Ciudad Victoria Tamaulipas-Linares-Nuevo León.

The National Guard reported that the collision occurred in the early hours of this Saturday, at kilometer 67, due to the fact that a tank truck that was transporting 33,000 liters of gasoline came off the truck and that it hit the bus, which caught fire.

It was reported that the bus had left Huejutla de Reyes, Hidalgo, on Friday afternoon, bound for Monterrey, Nuevo León.

Elements of the Mexican Army closed the road.

Emergency and security forces went to the site to help the injured and put out the fire, while authorities take note of the events.

It was indicated that the road would remain closed for at least six hours while the units and the bodies of the deceased are removed.

This morning the Mexican Army applied Plan DN-III-E at the scene of the incident.

It transpired that this Saturday morning the tractor-trailer was located, it was abandoned in Oyama.

Authorities continue to rescue the bodies, it is believed that the number of victims could increase in the coming hours.
