Emblematic ancient tree falls in downtown Oaxaca

The laurel that fell was an emblematic tree of the city of Oaxaca, under its shade music concerts and various cultural activities were held.

A laurel tree fell on Wednesday, June 8th, in the Morelos Garden located in the city center of Oaxaca, after the heavy rain that occurred on Tuesday night.

The laurel fell on Victoria Street, damaging a parked van, as well as the electrical wiring.

No injuries were reported after the tree fell.

Agents of Civil Protection of the City of Oaxaca and the Heroic Fire Department affect the work to chop and remove the laurel trees.

Similarly, workers from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) began repairing power poles.

Residents report that in some parts of the Oaxaca City historic center there is no electricity.

Meanwhile, the laurel, which fell on Wednesday, was an emblematic tree of the city of Oaxaca, under its shade music concerts and various cultural activities were held regularly.

The environmentalist Nazario García said that “if necessary, we must replace the trees that are damaged, the situation must be reconsidered.”

The two trees that fell due to the rains were planted in 1875 and 1885 respectively.
