It will be during the month of December when a booster shot program will begin for the country’s older adult population. During his Thursday morning press conference, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) said that this month, they intend to apply booster doses starting with the elderly.

AMLO said that this particular vaccination phase could begin sometime between December 12 and 24, almost a year after the National Vaccination Plan began in Mexico.

“We are going to start with a third or booster dose, or for some, a first dose. We cannot speak of the third when some only had one dose applied, so it will be reinforcing starting with older adults.”

AMLO stated that Mexico has enough vaccines for its entire population to begin the reinforcement application, as well as to continue donating to nations that require it.

“The important thing to also point out is that we have enough vaccines (…) Mexico is among the ten countries with the most vaccines and that is why we are going to continue helping, delivering vaccines to the poorest countries as we have been doing,” he said.

In November, health officials in Mexico said they were analyzing the possible application of a third or booster dose of the covid-19 vaccine to older adults.

On Tuesday, Mexico received another 585,000 Pfizer vaccines, one of four shipments expected this week.
