Mexico.- Before forecast, cyclone “Rick” intensified and is now established as a category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale; it is located south of Guerrero and its cloud bands will produce torrential punctual rains that could generate landslides and floods in areas of Guerrero and Oaxaca, as well as very heavy rains in Michoacán, Puebla and Morelos.
In the 6:15 am alert, the National Meteorological Service indicated that the system is located 30 km south-southwest of Acapulco, Guerrero and 600 km south-southeast of Manzanillo, Colima.
The movement of Hurricane “Rick” continues towards the north-northwest with sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour and gusts of 140 km / h and its cloud bands will produce torrential punctual rains that could generate landslides and floods in areas of Guerrero and Oaxaca, as well like very heavy rains in Michoacán.
Surveillance zone for hurricane effects is maintained from Tecpan de Galeana, Guerrero, to Punta San Telmo, Michoacán; surveillance zone for tropical storm effects from Tecpan de Galeana to Acapulco Guerrero, and from Punta San Telmo, Michoacán, to Manzanillo, Colima.
The rains produced by the system could generate an increase in the levels of rivers and streams, landslides, and floods in areas of Guerrero and Oaxaca. In addition, wind with gusts of 60 to 70 km / h and waves of 2 to 4 meters high is forecast on the coasts of Guerrero and Michoacán
“Rick” will evolve very quickly, since it is expected that during the early hours of Sunday it will acquire the category of hurricane two, the same day at noon three and thus remain throughout Monday when it approaches with that level of danger and touches land rapidly descending to level one.
Later on Tuesday, it is expected that as a tropical depression it will begin its journey overland over Guadalajara and Torreón, Coahuila, affecting neighboring states with its extensive cloud bands.
For now, Sinaloa should be calm but vigilant to the changes that hurricane “Rick” could present, although it is not forecast to make local landfall, its cloud bands of up to 600 kilometers, will reach the south of the state and promote rains.
For now, for this Saturday, October 23, temperatures of between 30 and 35 degrees are expected, mostly at noon; cloudy in the south of Sinaloa and possible isolated rains that will not represent a greater risk. On Friday, Choix was in second place with highs with 38.5 degrees, below Ciudad Obregón where the thermometer registered 38.6º.
