Coahuila authorities announced that the use of face masks will be strictly mandatory, and those who do not comply with the order will be fined.

The fine for those who do not use face masks or do not wear it properly in public spaces will be 896 pesos, given the increase in COVID-19 infections in the state of Coahuila. 

The governor of Coahuila, Miguel Riquelme Solís, announced that although by decree in the state the use of face masks is mandatory, it is necessary for municipalities to reform their municipal regulations to enforce the application of fines to those who fail to comply with the measure. 

Faced with this situation, the COVID-19 Regional Technical Subcommittee of the Southeast Region approved to reactivate the application of economic fines to those who do not wear properly face masks in spaces such as parks, public transport, markets and public roads in general. The foregoing applies to the municipalities of Saltillo, Ramos Arizpe, Arteaga, Parras and General Cepeda.

It was also agreed to reinforce the Zero Tolerance operations to ensure that sanitary protocols are met in bars, restaurant bars, as well as in lounges, gardens and palapas that are rented for social events. 

Despite the escalation of coronavirus cases in the state, product of the third wave that is going through the country, at the moment the closure of activities that in recent months have been reactivated with established health protocols is not contemplated, although it has been determined to reduce capacity in some establishments.

In the latest report from the state Health Secretariat, 468 new cases of COVID-19 were counted in a 24-hour period, one of the five highest figures recorded for a single day since the start of the pandemic. .
