Mexico and the United States have started talksĀ to start a bilateral project toĀ solve the problem of contamination of the Tijuana RiverĀ that generates aĀ large discharge of sewage in the Pacific Ocean.

In a first virtual meeting, theĀ United StatesĀ Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), theĀ National Water Commission (Conagua);Ā Esteban Moctezuma BarragĆ”n, the Mexican ambassador to the United States, and Roberto Velasco Ɓlvarez, head of the Ministry of Foreign Relations (SER) for North America,Ā who proposed several initiatives to clean up the river.

Currently, a mixed financing scheme is being sought with various institutions and a budget by the EPA within theĀ Mexico-United States-Canada Treaty (USMCA).

The Mexican delegation presented 15 proposals for solutions to the problem of contamination of the Tijuana RiverĀ during the high-level meeting.

With the joint work of federal authorities such as the SRE, the International Limits and Water Commission (CILA),Ā SemarnatĀ andĀ Conagua, in coordination with local authorities such as theĀ Secretariat for Water Management, Sanitation and Protection (Seproa)Ā and theĀ State Commission del Agua (CEA)Ā of the Government of Baja California and theĀ State Commission of Public Services of Tijuana (CESPT), Mexico has a portfolio of projects articulated at different levels of government.
