The son of the president of Mexico Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has tested positive for coronavirus. The president was interacting with the youngest of his children, Jesús Ernesto López, before going on a tour of Veracruz.

“The disease does not hit adolescents hard, I am already vaccinated and so is his mother,” López Obrador reported this Tuesday at his morning press conference.

In addition, he stressed that the fact that he and his wife were infected “is proof” of the effectiveness of vaccines, despite the fact that immunized people or those who have already passed the virus can contract it again in the form of mild or asymptomatic disease and keep infecting the people around you.

López Obrador has used a personal example to demonstrate the effectiveness of vaccines and finish convincing those reluctant to get immunized in Mexico. “Jesus Ernesto, my son, was infected recently, and we were living together because it was not known,” he said at his press conference.

His son, the result of his marriage to Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller, has not infected the president and his wife, as detailed by López Obrador this morning to “remove fears and help against all obstacles against vaccines” that still find resistance in certain sectors of the population. “We both got vaccinated with AstraZeneca. So that’s a test, “he added.

The president has not given details on whether his family will spend a period of isolation or undergo tests for the virus after having been in contact with a positive.
