The Mexican state of Yucatan was recently downgraded to alert level 1 by the U.S. State Department. The travel warning only states that visitors can “take normal precautions” when visiting the state.

The travel recommendation comes immediately after the destination announced the return of 100% of U.S. flights and the return of the first cruise ship to Puerto Progreso.

At the same time, as part of the Economic Reactivation Plan, representatives of the Secretariat of Tourism Development (Sefotur) attended the Routes Americas 2021 meeting. The event aims to hold meetings with several of the airlines attending, raising the different alternatives that Yucatan has for the creation of new routes, highlighting the importance of the State as a destination.

This is the first time a Mexican designation has reached Level 1 since the State Department began issuing state-divided warnings for Mexico.

The alert level indicates that the risk of Covid-19 in the state of Yucatan is low; however, the tourist attractions and sites of interest maintain all hygiene and sanitary measures.

The mandatory use of masks in public spaces, hotels, restaurants, tours, markets, etc., is still called for. In addition, the venues will continue to operate at reduced capacity with social distancing and sanitation measures in place.
