The candidate himself recounted the assault by at least four armed men, who also took his wallet and cell phone.

The Zacatecas Metropolitan Police located the truck that was stolen from the candidate of the coalition “Va por Zacatecas” for the mayor of Fresnillo, Javier Torres, in the community of Plateros; the vehicle had the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) logo and several bullet marks.

Presumably, the bodies of two men shot to death were found inside the white SUV, but this was not reported by the State Security Spokesperson.

Agents of the Metropolitan Police who were conducting surveillance tours in Zacatecas located the abandoned vehicle, at the junction to the San José del Alamito community.

The agents “proceeded to consult the vehicle’s data in the Mexico and Repuve Platform System, obtaining that it had a theft report, which is why it was insured and made available to the Public Ministry.”

Javier Torres

“Javo” Torres, standard-bearer of the PAN, PRI and PRD coalition, denounced that on Monday, April 26th, when he returned with his retinue from campaign events in rural communities heading for the municipal seat, he was intercepted by armed men in a vehicle, which they stripped his wife of the truck she was driving behind the candidate’s own unit.

In a press conference he gave on Tuesday, April 27th, the candidate himself recounted the assault by at least four armed men, who also took his belongings.

Apparently, the criminals fled to Valparaíso, although the same candidate said that some of his collaborators saw the truck pass through the area.
