Murder rate in Zacatecas grows 42% in one year
The state governed by the Alejandro Tello goes from 333 cases from January to August 2019, to 473 in the same period of 2020.
Zacatecas, Zac. (September 22, 2020).- A group of armed men attacked the public security command of Juan Aldama, a municipality located 204 kilometers from the state capital, on the morning of Saturday, September 19, and killed the director of the corporation, Ricardo Barrón Guzmán; his deputy director, and injured another agent.
The attack took place around 8:30 a.m. at the corporation’s building, in the Cerro del Agua neighborhood, where the gunmen detonated their weapons in multiple times. This is the second armed attack in which a police chief in this municipality has died.
Barrón Guzmán had been barely one month at the head of the Juan Aldama corporation, where he arrived from the local Public Security Secretariat, he was part of the State Police Transported Aeromobile Group (Gatpe).
On July 31, 2019, Víctor Hugo Salazar Varela, director of the Juan Aldama police, and Juan Manuel Ramírez Serdán, one of his bodyguards, were shot in the community of La Ciénega, on the border with the state of Durango. Juan Aldama is governed by the PAN José Serrano Alba.
Following the tragic incident, Governor Alejandro Tello Cristerna “condemned the attack” through a press release, and reported that “he instructed the immediate deployment of state and federal corporations to locate those responsible for the cowardly aggression.”
Three hours after the murder of the police chief, in another incident, at the Los Ángeles ranch, in the municipality of Fresnillo, on one side of federal highway 45 Mexico-Ciudad Juárez, unknown persons left three bodies wrapped in black plastic bags, local police reported.
Similarly, the murder of 12 people and five injuries were reported during confrontations and executions of alleged criminal groups in the last 72 hours recorded in the municipalities of Fresnillo, Guadalupe, Río Grande, Jerez and Loreto.
Authorities indicated that it is due to the fight between alleged members of the Sinaloa and Jalisco Nueva Generación cartels, who dispute the control of the transfer and sale of drugs in the entity.
