CHIAPAS, Mexico – A horrific multi-vehicle accident occurred on a toll road in Chiapas after a heavy trailer carrying 30 tons of cement collided with 13 stranded vehicles, resulting in at least three confirmed deaths.
The incident took place on the highway connecting Chiapa de Corzo to San Cristóbal de las Casas. According to reports, the driver of the heavy vehicle lost control while navigating a curve on a steep incline. The trailer plowed into a line of vehicles that had stopped to wait for passage following a previous accident.
The wreckage includes an ambulance, a fire truck, several public transportation units, and numerous private cars. The heavy unit eventually came to a stop after striking a rock in the opposite lane.
Authorities have confirmed three fatalities at the scene; however, additional deaths are suspected as victims were transported to a nearby hospital. The exact number of casualties remains undisclosed at this time.
Local reports also highlighted concerns regarding safety communications, noting that the Chiapa de Corzo toll booth failed to issue any warnings regarding the hazard on the road. The highway remains closed as emergency services continue to manage the scene.
