From Comedy to Legacy: New Cantinflas Museum Debuts in Roma Norte

- October 9, 2026

MEXICO CITY — After nearly three years of rigorous research and preparation, the city has officially opened the Museum of Cantinflas, a cultural sanctuary dedicated to preserving the life and legacy of the “Mimo de México.” The museum serves as a comprehensive tribute to one of the most beloved and influential figures of Mexico’s Golden Age of Cinema.

Located in the vibrant Roma Norte neighborhood, the museum offers an immersive and interactive experience that transcends a traditional gallery walk. Organized around seven thematic cores, the exhibition allows visitors to explore the multifaceted life of Mario Moreno. The museum houses a vast collection of personal belongings, original costumes, scripts, letters, awards, and previously unseen video footage, portraying Cantinflas not only as a legendary comedian but also as a philanthropist, collector, and visionary entrepreneur.

“Our mission is to preserve, study, and disseminate the artistic and human legacy of Mario Moreno Cantinflas,” said Melissa Parra, the museum’s director, during the inauguration ceremony. She emphasized that the goal is to make this heritage accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds.

Curator Sara Garduño Pérez noted that the permanent exhibition, titled “Aquí está el detalle,” aims to provide a historical memory of the artist’s life. “It is a permanent exhibition that seeks to preserve and share his historical memory through experiences built from his personal belongings,” she shared.

The museum is designed for high-volume public engagement, featuring a gift shop, universal accessibility for people with disabilities, and a layout that allows families to complete the tour in approximately one hour.
