Former INE President Guadalupe Taddei Seeks Refuge in Arizona Amid Corruption Scandal

- November 3, 2026

SONORA, Mexico – Guadalupe Taddei, the recently resigned president of Mexico’s National Electoral Institute (INE), has reportedly sought refuge in Arizona, USA, following a trip to her home state of Sonora under the escort of state police.

Sources cited by La Silla Rota report that Taddei traveled to the Mexican-U.S. border following her resignation from the INE, which occurred amid a high-profile scandal involving allegations of corruption and conflicts of interest. The scandal erupted after videos surfaced showing Taddei celebrating with the owner of “Cajas Graf”—a company that received millions of pesos from the INE—as well as footage of a luxury vacation in Paris.

Taddei, who submitted her resignation to the Chamber of Deputies last Monday, reportedly began her journey in Cananea, the city where she was born. She then traveled to Naco, a town approximately 60 kilometers from the border, before crossing into the United States. She is currently believed to be staying in Palominas, a small town in Cochise County, Arizona.

According to reports, Taddei was accompanied on her journey by a discreet escort from the Sonora state police. The move comes as she faces mounting political pressure and the potential for both administrative and criminal charges regarding alleged damage to public funds and conflicts of interest.

The report also highlighted the significant political and family ties surrounding the former official. Taddei resides in a long-held family home in Arizona. Her son, Luis Rogelio Piñeda Taddei, currently serves as the private secretary to the Governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo Montaño. Additionally, her father, Jorge Taddei, is a prominent academic and former welfare official. Another son, Pablo Daniel Taddei, directs a government-backed lithium company, LitioMx, which has drawn criticism for high payroll expenditures without achieving significant commercial production or large-scale exploration projects since its inception in 2022.
