Chihuahua’s Average Daily Wage Hits 694 Pesos, Ranking 7th Nationally

- October 14, 2026

CHIHUAHUA, Mexico — The state of Chihuahua concluded September with an average daily wage of 694.3 pesos, a figure that places the state in seventh place nationally. According to data from the Center for Economic and Social Information (CIES), based on statistics from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), the state has seen significant growth in wages since 2022.

The wage landscape in Chihuahua varies significantly depending on the economic sector. The electricity and water sector recorded the highest daily pay at 1,494.2 pesos, followed by the extraction industry, which averaged 1,081.5 pesos. In contrast, the agricultural sector reported the lowest average daily wage at just 419.7 pesos—less than one-third of what workers in the water and power sectors earn.

Sectoral Breakdowns and Employment Concentration

In September 2026, the remuneration in the transformation sector reached 747.8 pesos daily, while transport reported 738.7 pesos, and services reached 655.4 pesos. Commerce reported 602.7 pesos daily, construction reached 524.5 pesos, and agriculture stood at 419.7 pesos.

In terms of the concentration of insured workers by average salary, the transformation sector held the largest percentage at 48.7%, followed by services at 20%, and commerce at 17.4%.

Growth Trends and Regional Comparisons

While the state’s average salary has risen from 483.5 pesos in 2022 to 694.3 pesos today—a cumulative increase of 43.6%—the pace of wage growth is beginning to slow. The annual variation dropped from 14.1% in 2022 to 12% in 2023, 11% in 2024, and 8.6% in 2025, eventually reaching 6.3% in September 2026.

When compared with other northern border states, Chihuahua ranks fourth. It trails Baja California (734.2 pesos), Nuevo León (732.8 pesos), and Tamaulipas (697.7 pesos). Conversely, it slightly leads Coahuila (673.7 pesos) and Sonora (626.7 pesos).

Internal regional disparities also remain prominent. Ciudad Juárez recorded the highest average daily wage in the state at 769.1 pesos, followed by Chihuahua City at 664.1 pesos. The difference between these two regions was 105 pesos daily. Other regions showed lower averages, with Cuauhtémoc at 571.6 pesos, Hidalgo del Parral at 568.8 pesos, and Delicias recording the lowest among the measured regions at 516 pesos.

The data reflects both sectoral and geographic disparities. While the light and water and extraction sectors recorded the highest remunerations, the transformation sector stands out for concentrating nearly half of the insured workers considered in the CIES indicator, based on IMSS data.
