Reynosa-San Fernando Highway Closed Due to Severe Flooding in Tamaulipas

- October 7, 2026

The Reynosa-San Fernando highway in the northern border region of Tamaulipas has been closed to all traffic due to severe flooding caused by recent heavy rainfall.

According to the state’s Security Spokesperson, the closure is currently in effect in both directions at kilometer 67, near the La Llorona bridge. Authorities cordoned off the area after water accumulation reached levels that posed a significant risk to light vehicles, passenger transport, and heavy cargo trucks.

Officials are urging the public to exercise extreme caution and avoid attempting to cross flooded sections, even in areas where water levels appear to be shallow.

For those looking to bypass the affected area, authorities recommend using the San Fernando–Matamoros–Reynosa federal highway as an alternative route. Security forces remain on-site to guard the perimeter, and the road will only be reopened once officials determine that the conditions are safe for travel.
