The display of the banner—commonly referred to in Mexico as a narcomanta—was placed along a key vehicular overpass on the Mérida-Campeche federal highway, right at the entrance to Tenabo.
Its appearance directly challenges local security narratives claiming that major criminal cartels do not maintain an active footprint within the state.In addition to threats directed at specific targets, the message allegedly raised accusations against public security officials.
The Caborca Cartel, historically rooted in northern Mexico, has increasingly expanded its sphere of influence toward southern transit routes. The discovery of the banner prompted an immediate response from security forces, who removed the sign and initiated surveillance operations in the surrounding area.
