Korean Ambassador Calls San Miguel de Allende Mayor Mauricio Trejo a Puerco “Pig” (VIDEO)

What no one expected at the opening of the San Miguel de Allende International Book Fair was that the most talked-about moment wouldn’t come from a writer, a poet, or a book… but from a single word.

During his remarks, the Korean ambassador to Mexico ended up calling Mayor Mauricio Trejo a “pig” in front of dozens of attendees, special guests, officials, vendors, and a few curious onlookers who were only there for the shade.

For a few seconds, time seemed to stand still among the onlookers. Some stifled their laughter. Others looked down at the ground. Still others pretended to check their phones. And some nearly choked trying to keep their composure and stifle their laughter.

Meanwhile, the mayor smiled, with that “I just want this to be over soon because I want to leave” smile. Was it a mispronunciation? Was it a mix-up with the surname Pureco? Was it a twist of fate? Or was the universe simply gifting us with free content? We’ll leave that up to you.

What’s certain is that the moment has already become a memorable anecdote from this year’s International Book Fair in San Miguel de Allende.
