The project aims to restore deteriorated stars and includes a tribute to Horacio Palencia, possibly accompanied by a concert.
With a planned investment of 3.5 million pesos, the Walk of Fame, located in the area where the Mazatlán Woman Monument stands, will be rehabilitated this year, Mayor Estrella Palacios Domínguez announced.
The mayor recalled that this project, announced last year, arose due to the visible deterioration of some of the stars, which no longer clearly identify the honored artists.
In January, El Sol de Mazatlán documented the neglect of this public space dedicated to the memory of Mazatlán and Mexican music.
In that context, she announced that a new star will be awarded to singer-songwriter Horacio Palencia in 2026 and raised the possibility of accompanying the recognition with a musical event.
“And this year, 2026, we’re going to award a star, as you know, to Horacio Palencia; I want to propose that Horacio Palencia give us a concert with someone; so, it would be great if it could be around that time, and also taking advantage of the renovation of the Walk of Fame,” the mayor said.
The acting head of the Public Works office, Martín Gallardo Noriega, specified that the project is still in the planning stage.
He indicated that the proposal would go before the Public Works Committee next week, that the bidding process would begin in March, and that construction would start in April, with an approximate execution period of a month and a half.
