By the end of 2024, Mexico will reach its highest production of light vehicles in its history, including electric and hybrid units, approaching the 4 million mark. Around 503,000 units were manufactured in Coahuila at plants in Ramos Arizpe and Saltillo.

The 4 million units were produced in plants located in 15 cities across the country, where the United States was the main trading partner, capturing 80% of car shipments manufactured in the country.

According to a graph prepared by Grupo Reforma, 289,000 units were manufactured in Saltillo, while 214,000 were manufactured in Ramos Arizpe.

With this, Coahuila is among the 11 states with the highest production of units in 2024.

In the case of Ramos Arizpe, at the General Motors plant, a total of 82,126 Blazer and Blazer EV units were produced; 80,132 Equinox and Equinox EV units; 46,672 Prologue units; and 4,920 Optiq units.

Meanwhile, Stellantis in Saltillo produced 206,962 RAM 2500/3500 units and 81,793 ProMaster units.

According to figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), automotive companies produced 3,989,403 units in 2024, surpassing the previous record set in 2017, when 3,933,154 units were assembled.

The importance of the automotive industry in Mexico lies in the fact that it represents almost 4% of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 20.5% of manufacturing GDP, more than any other sector, according to AMIA.

According to the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA), Mexico produces five electric and hybrid models: Mach-E, Equinox EV, Blazer EV, Wagoner, and Tacoma Hybrid.

Eighty percent of vehicle exports were sent to the United States; 8.5% to Canada; and 3.6% to Germany. This contributed to the fact that 18% of total vehicle sales in the US market were cars manufactured in Mexico.
