On Friday, November 8, two weeks ago, a nephew of the former foreign minister and now Secretary of the Environment, Alicia Bárcena, was arrested in Seattle, Washington, for working illegally.

ICE arrested him like so many thousands of countrymen, but unlike them, in this case, the consul Héctor Godoy mobilized the diplomatic staff.

Only they could not release him until Tuesday, because Monday was a holiday in the US, Veterans Day.

The press contacted Barcena to ask for an explanation, but she refused to comment, arguing protection of personal data.

Alicia Bárcena was Mexico’s ambassador to Chile, and now in the Sheinbaum administration, she will lead the Secretariat of the Environment and Natural Resources.

In 2016, Alicia Bárcena received an honorary degree in Cuba.

That year, the official who served as executive secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Alicia Bárcena, was then awarded an honorary doctorate in economic sciences by the University of Havana.
