The Prosecutor’s Office accuses the former governor of an alleged diversion of resources, in what the politician considers revenge by the current governor, María Eugenia Campos.

The Chihuahua Prosecutor’s Office tried to capture former governor Javier Corral on Wednesday night while he was having dinner at a restaurant in Mexico City.

A group of agents from the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office entered the place, located in the busy Roma neighborhood, and presented him with an arrest warrant issued by a Chihuahua judge. Corral, the main anti-corruption advisor to Claudia Sheinbaum, the president-elect, had been escorted for weeks by agents provided by the Army.

He was having dinner with Muna Dora Buchahin, a former high-ranking official of the Superior Audit Office of the Federation.

The Chihuahua Prosecutor’s Office accuses Corral of an alleged diversion of resources, in what the former president himself considers a political revenge by the current governor, María Eugenia Campos.

The operation of the Chihuahua agents failed because, to execute the arrest warrant issued by a local judge, they had to request a collaboration agreement from the federal authorities or Mexico City.

This did not happen. Corral made calls and in a short time agents from the capital’s Prosecutor’s Office arrived at the restaurant, headed by the head, Ulises Lara, who prevented the arrest of the politician and transferred him in a vehicle to put him in a safe place.

The attempt to capture Corral by the Campos Government has been plotted over months and intensified when the former governor became a senator elected by Morena.

An open confrontation is predicted between Chihuahua and the incoming Administration of Claudia Sheinbaum.
